Wedding dress shopping - the EWB guide

Starting the ball rolling with dress shopping can be difficult and also very daunting so it’s important that you don’t start too soon or leave it too late.  We’ve put together a few handy FAQ type tips to help take the stress away from finding your perfect gown:

When do I start dress shopping?

We recommend you start looking to buy your dress approximately 12 months before the wedding.  We work alongside leading bridal designers so all our gowns are made to order.  The process from you saying ‘YES to the dress’ to your gown arriving in-store can take 4-6 months, factored in with a couple of months of alterations and fittings that leaves us comfortable time to fit around your busy schedule without you feeling rushed.  Choosing your dream dress in the same season you’ll be getting married in can also be a huge help – so if you’re getting married in Summer next year book your bridal appointment for Summer this year – that way you’re in the right frame of mind with the weather etc.  It’s not easy choosing your Summer wedding dress in December when it’s minus 4 and snowing outside!

We’ve secured a late deal with the venue so we’re getting married in 6 months!

First things first – don’t panic!  You may still have time for a made to order gown as some of our designers offer a ‘rush cut’ service, we will be able to confirm which gowns can be ordered at shorter notice.  You also have the option to buy ‘off the rail’ or in our sample sale – so if you find your gown in our boutique and it’s the right size for you then we may be able to offer it to you at a reduced cost to take away that day.

I’m scared I’ll get pushed into buying a dress!

We pride ourselves on our relaxed approach and promise that you will not feel pushed into buying with us.  Whilst of course we would love for you to become an EWB bride we appreciate that you may not find ‘the one’ with us, either way we hope you enjoyed your EWB experience, had lots of fun and would recommend us to your friends and family.

I have lots of pictures of dresses I like but what if they don’t suit me?

Very often the dress you fall in love with is the complete opposite to the dress on your Pinterest board so it’s important that you try and keep an open mind.  We always encourage our brides to try all shapes and styles on if it’s your first appointment, also be open to trying gowns on suggested by the boutique – sometimes the red herring can be ‘the one’!

Who do I bring with me?

We always advise that you bring a maximum of 4 people with you, only bring the people whose opinion you value and don’t feel pressured to bring other people for fear of upsetting anyone – this is your time and your dress, it’s important that you chose a gown that’s right for you.  Too many people can mean too many different opinions leaving you feeling overwhelmed.  Your bridal experience should be private and intimate, making special memories with your favourite people.

The main thing is that you enjoy shopping for your wedding dress, it should be as memorable as the big day itself (almost!) – so book in with us for your EWB experience, your dream dress is waiting!

See you soon,

Keeley xx
